Decos Technology Headquarters

For our client Inbo, we had the opportunity to coat the exterior façade of the new headquarters of Decos.

The Decos Technology Group has moved into its new headquarters at the Noordwijk Space Business Park. With its unique corporate philosophy, Decos is a leader in location-independent working. The fully paperless organization makes it possible to rethink the modern office environment in an entirely new way. The client’s ambitious vision has resulted in this very special design completing the journey from dream to realization. “The most important thing is that our office is an inspiring and innovative meeting place,” says Decos director Paul Veger.

The new headquarters of the Noordwijk-based software company is certainly an inspiring work environment. It features slanted walls, a striking ice-blue exterior, and continuous window strips. Inside, there are large work floors with open atriums along the inner façades, inspiring meeting rooms—including an innovative brainstorming space and areas for standing meetings—and a coffee corner. “Our office truly is a meeting place, where our employees come by choice to meet colleagues and exchange ideas,” Mr. Veger explains.

Jeroen Simons of Inbo proposed giving the headquarters of software company Decos the impact of a meteorite striking a Dutch business park. The plan was selected as the winning design in a closed competition among several leading architectural firms. The inspiration for the design concept was found in the immediate context. The building is located at the Space Business Park in Noordwijk, next to ESTEC. The client’s passion is illustrated by his ambition to be associated with this. “It is a tangible icon for the intangible digital technology of Decos, a company operating in the realm of bits and bytes,” says architect Saxon-Lear Duckworth.

The futuristic shape of the building is possible because Decos works entirely according to the ‘new way of working’: all processes and administration are fully digital, eliminating the need for cabinets and storage spaces. This new way of working comes naturally to Decos, as they use their own technology. All administration is online, and most workstations are flexible, where employees log in with their laptops. “When people can work independently of location, it leads to different kinds of buildings; offices become more like workspaces,” according to architect Jeroen Simons. “I am extremely impressed by how the architect, the builders, and interior architect Ellis Kamerling have managed to realize my dream of a unique work environment so well,” says Paul Veger. “Moreover, it is wonderful that our office now fits seamlessly with our corporate culture, which is characterized by trust and transparency, enthusiasm and creativity. This is expressed in the building in the ultimate way. I am convinced that this building will be a tremendous source of inspiration for all of us!”
